8th OWN IT Conference with DWIB: Shining Beyond Brilliance
Davis Women in Business will be hosting the 8th annual OWN IT conference with the theme Beyond Brilliance on April 28th, 2024 at the UC Davis Conference Center from 9:00am to 3:30pm.
OWN IT at UC Davis is an annual leadership conference that strives to empower the next generation women and nonbinary individuals entering the workforce. By connecting our attendees with working professionals of all backgrounds, OWN IT aims to inspire our attendees to take action in pursuing their aspirations.
“The goal of OWN IT is to have UC Davis students explore what life is in various professional fields through different perspectives. I want attendees to feel comfortable exploring new pathways, and feel connected to the speakers or other attendees. OWN IT Conference is really just a place for everyone to feel highlighted, learn, and make new friendships in a professional setting,”
“Beyond Brilliance,” the OWN IT conference theme for this year, is coined by how every diamond shines with its own light, every woman has her own brilliance, talents, and qualities.
With notable Keynote speaker Idara Otu, who is a 2012 Nigerian Olympian turned Wall Street maven, with a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science from Stanford University. Founding a charity and business brand, Otu has extensive experience in Corporate America and entrepreneurship to share to women in business at the OWN IT conference.
“We’ve all heard of the classic saying “diamonds are made under pressure”, but at this year’s OWN IT Conference my Co-Director and I want to debunk that. Pressure doesn’t necessarily equate success because just like how each diamond is unique and radiates in its own way, each person is also on their own trajectory and timeline. The “brilliance” of a diamond is where it possesses the most luster. Similarly, I hope that our conference attendees can discover their potential and what illuminates them from within!”
With a keynote session from Otu, industry panel, three workshops, complimentary breakfast and lunch, networking session, and plenty of OWN IT goodies like totes, the OWN IT conference is one of the main highlights every year for Davis Women in Business.
“When looking at workshops and speakers, we want all different backgrounds and work fields to have a chance to show their brilliance. So the speaker team worked hard on finding speakers to encompass all women and their strengths. For the names of the workshops, we got inspired by our conference theme and the fields—communication, media, and financial literacy—we chose to highlight this year,”
Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to personal success stories and insights from multiple accomplished women from various industries in finance, consulting, marketing, technology, public health, management, nutrition, and more.
Through these workshops with the OWN IT panelists and exclusive networking sessions, we hope to empower professional growth as attendees connect with real-world professionals and other like minded women in business.
“Our first workshop is “Shaping Your Financial Future”, with an emphasis on financial literacy, budgeting, and exploring careers within the finance industry. For “Polish Your Potential with Communications”, we will be exploring corporate communication, self-advocacy in the workplace, and how to strengthen your confidence. And finally, for “Illuminate Your Image with Media” we will be focusing on digital marketing, personal branding, and how to leverage social media as a business platform.”
